Hello Reader,
Summer is supposed to be carefree and full of sun-soaked memories. But let’s be real: summer also comes with extra expenses—vacations, camps, family activities, and more.
If you’re feeling a little nervous about your summer budget, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about how to make a plan that keeps you financially on track and feeling good.
🗨️ Rant:
Summer is one of those times where the spending sneakily creeps up.
We tell ourselves, “It’s just a quick weekend trip,” or “The kids need something fun to do,” or “We deserve a treat!” And you know what? We do deserve fun.
But if we’re not careful, that summer spontaneity can turn into a big balance on the credit card—or a nagging sense of guilt every time we spend.
The truth: you don’t have to choose between summer fun and financial stability. A summer budget is about finding a sweet spot—not cutting out everything joyful.
Also there is usually an inevitable price hike in your electric bill (thanks, A/C!)
But that’s why I’m a big believer in pre-planning. Let’s not let summer catch us by surprise!
👀 Reflection:
This year, summer budgeting has hit differently for me. My oldest is now in school full-time during the year, but come summer, that routine shifts. Suddenly, we’re looking at summer camps and activities to keep them engaged—and it’s an extra bill we didn’t have during the school year.
I’ve had to remind myself: this isn’t “bad spending.” It’s about meeting my kid’s needs and making sure they’re cared for and having fun. So instead of beating myself up for those higher childcare costs, I’m reworking my budget to fit them in—because summer might be expensive, but it’s also worth it.
Now, I’m all about adjusting for those seasonal spikes in advance. It’s not just about cutting back—it’s about feeling confident and in control of your money, even when the temperature (and your to-do list) heats up.
