Hello Reader,
Big news today: the Unmuted Money Skool community is officially live! I’ve been quietly building this behind the scenes and I can’t wait to invite you in. Before I dive into all the details, I want to back up and share why this matters to me.
💬 Rant:
Money conversations are still treated like some kind of secret club where only the “in the know” people are allowed to talk openly (AKA rich mostly white dudes). Most of us grew up hearing things like “don’t ask about that,” “that’s private,” or “we don’t talk about money in public.” And honestly? That’s kept so many people stuck, second-guessing themselves, and carrying shame about finances that never should have been there in the first place.
I’ve seen too many folks avoid asking for help because they were afraid of sounding “dumb” or being judged. That silence keeps us isolated and isolation breeds fear. It’s why so many people believe they’re “bad with money” when really they just haven’t had a safe place to practice talking about it. I swear you will hear me say this more than once "You aren't born out the womb being good with money. No one is"
In my own childhood (Hi Mom (she is subscribed to this newsletter)), we did not talk about finances. We played games around finances but actual real talk about what was going on? Nope cause it "wasn't your business." Doesn't mean I wasn't aware of money related issues, but it did make it seem like I was being nosey. That’s what I want to change.
👀 Reflection:
When I look back, the biggest leaps I’ve made with my own money didn’t come from a single budget or spreadsheet. They came from conversations. Talking things out. Hearing “me too.” Realizing I wasn’t the only one who felt awkward, behind, or unsure. I have gone through periods of being debt free, to debt ridden (still am thank you student loans), but I can say now I am confident enough to trust myself to make decisions and talk about it without caring about what other people think. (We live different lives, our contexts are unique)
That’s why I created the Unmuted Money Skool community. It’s not another course, or a bunch of lectures where you just sit and listen. It’s a space for real connection. A place where you can show up as you are, learn at your own pace, and actually talk through the messy, human side of money with others on the same path.
And truthfully? I need it too. I wanted a space where we don’t just consume information we practice, share wins, vent about struggles, and remind each other we’re not alone. I want it to be the place for you to practice talking about money so you can take it offline and talk about money with your friends and family in the "real world."
