When life gets messy (and money still matters)

Says "when life gets mess" and the unmuted money and debt tale logo

Hello Reader,

I have to be honest... I dropped the ball the past couple weeks. Between back-to-school chaos, swim class schedules, and a couple rough gallbladder attacks, I just couldn’t keep up. Maybe you’ve felt that way too lately? Like no matter how much you plan, life just throws curveballs? I don't want to skip past the silence. I want you to know what's been going on and as a reminder we are all human.

💬 Rant:

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Aside from the things I mentioned earlier, I am struggling with lack of sleep and my ADHD symptoms are more noticeable to myself. Basically I felt like I was in survival mode. And here’s the thing: I hate pretending I’ve got it all together when I don’t. Life doesn’t pause for perfect routines, and sometimes the best you can do is just keep your head above water (water pun cause of the kids' swim classes).

I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only one who’s had seasons where “consistency” feels impossible. We’re constantly told to push harder, stay disciplined, and just “make it work,” but sometimes it really isn’t about trying harder. We’re often told consistency is the “golden rule” for success. Post every week, budget every month, never miss a step. But real life doesn’t work like that. Some weeks, showing up means adjusting, resting, or simply admitting, “I don’t have it in me this time.”

Missing a week or three doesn’t mean failure. It means you’re human. So here is me admitting AI is better than me, and I am human. I need rest. I need to not feel automated and do things at my own pace sometimes.

👀 Reflection:

This newsletter is my own reminder of that. I felt guilty for not sending updates, like I was letting you down. Missing these emails reminded me of why I started writing them in the first place: because money and life don’t always follow a neat, consistent schedule. Sometimes the unexpected happens, whether it’s school chaos or health issues, and our best-laid plans go sideways.

In the past, I would’ve let that spiral into guilt and self-blame. Honestly, the old me I am talking like maybe a year ago me would have up and quit entirely. But this time, I’m trying to approach it differently. Instead of seeing it as failure, I’m treating it as a reminder that my worth (and yours too) isn’t tied to how perfectly I stick to a schedule. What matters is how we show back up when we’re ready. And today, that’s exactly what I’m doing by showing up again.

Here’s the truth: those quiet weeks gave me space to reset, take care of my body, and figure out the new rhythm of school season. Seriously figuring out drive times, pick up driver line times (cause there is a perfect small window of time where you don't end up waiting forever), how much time to eat before rushing to swim, and then how to get the kids ready for bed after swim cause showers are a fight without losing your mind; it has truly been a learning curve.

And isn’t that what money and life management is really about? Building systems that bend when life gets messy, instead of breaking.

🔗 Resources:

This week, instead of a printable, I want to leave you with 3 prompts you can use whenever you feel like you’ve “fallen off” with your money (or anything else):

  1. What’s one small thing I can do this week to feel back on track?
  2. What can I temporarily pause or simplify until things calm down?
  3. What support or system would help me show up more easily next time?

Oh and exciting news: I’ll soon be launching a Skool group 🎉 where you’ll be able to join the community, get resources, and stay consistent (without the guilt). I’ll share more details soon.

Thanks for sticking with me through the messiness. I promise you’re not alone in it.

Showing up, even when it’s messy,

Coach Becca
